What to Pack
Žnjan is a pebble beach, so plan accordingly. Here’s your essential packing list:
- Sunscreen SPF 50+ — The Adriatic sun reflects off the water and the white pebbles. Reapply every two hours.
- Water shoes — Smooth pebbles underfoot can be slippery, especially near the waterline. A cheap pair of aqua shoes makes a huge difference.
- Reusable water bottle — Free water fountains are available along the promenade. Stay hydrated without buying plastic bottles.
- Towel or beach mat — A thicker towel works best on pebbles. Some visitors bring a thin camping mat for extra comfort.
- Hat and sunglasses — Shade is limited on the open beach, especially at midday.
- Cash and card — Most beach clubs accept cards, but smaller vendors and kiosks may be cash-only. Bring both.
Getting There
Žnjan Beach is located in the eastern part of Split, about 4 km from the city centre.
By bus: Lines 8 and 15 run from the city centre to Žnjan. The ride takes roughly 20 minutes. Buses run frequently during summer, every 15–20 minutes.
By car: There are 530 underground parking spots plus 451 outdoor spots, giving you roughly 981 total spaces. Parking is charged at €1/hour (charges apply from July 16, 2025). In peak season, arrive before 10am to guarantee a spot — the lots fill up fast.
By bike or on foot: The coastal promenade connects Žnjan to Bačvice and the city centre. It’s a scenic 30-minute walk or a 10-minute bike ride from the Radisson Blu area.
Pick Your Zone
After a €45.77M transformation, Žnjan reopened on June 21, 2025, with distinct zones for every type of visitor:
- Main Beach — The heart of Žnjan. Wide pebble shore, shallow entry into the sea, free showers, and the best swimming conditions. Ideal for a classic beach day.
- Kids Area — Dedicated family zone with a 600 m² playground, shallow wading areas, and shaded spots. Perfect if you’re visiting with children.
- Sports Zone — A 1,200 m² skate park, beach volleyball courts, and rental stations for SUP boards and kayaks. Come here if you want to stay active.
- Promenade — Over 2 km of paved waterfront walkway lined with palm trees, benches, and beach bars. Great for an evening stroll or morning jog through ~48,000 m² of green space.
- Amphitheater — A purpose-built venue with a steel dome that hosts concerts, movie nights, and community events throughout the season. Check local listings for the schedule.
Local Etiquette
A few unwritten rules to help you fit in:
- Don’t leave trash behind — Use the bins along the promenade. Žnjan’s renovation included extensive green infrastructure, and locals take pride in keeping it clean.
- Respect reserved sunbeds — If a sunbed has a towel or belongs to a beach club’s paid section, don’t move it. Free spots on the open pebble beach are always available.
- No glass on the beach — Broken glass and bare feet don’t mix. Use plastic or aluminium containers.
- Shower before entering the sea — Free showers are provided along the shoreline. A quick rinse keeps the water clean for everyone.
Must-Try Food
Žnjan’s 11 pavilion buildings house a range of restaurants and beach clubs. Here are the highlights for first-timers:
- Fresh fish at GAL Split — A galerija-style bar and restaurant with Dalmatian seafood, craft beer, and a laid-back atmosphere. Order the catch of the day.
- Cocktails at the beach clubs — Palma, Taboo, and Mistral all serve signature cocktails with sea views. Great for a late-afternoon drink.
- Coffee at Central Beach — Grab a cappuccino on the terrace and people-watch along the promenade. Central Beach is right in the middle of the action.
- Pizza at MIMI — Italian-inspired casual dining from F Group. Thin-crust pizzas, pasta, and gelato in a relaxed clubino setting.
